CCCU Hosts Regional Immigration Summits Across the Country

February 6, 2020

WASHINGTON – The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) will host regional immigration summits on CCCU campuses across the country in March 2020. With a focus on “thinking biblically about immigration,” these summits will provide a space for students, faculty, and campus leaders to examine the current state of immigration in the United States and understand how to best advocate for immigration reform in line with biblical principles. These events are made possible thanks to a generous $140,000 grant from Beacon IA, a donor-advised impact fund at Impact Assets.

“Christian higher education has a unique role to play in national conversations happening around immigration reform,” says CCCU President Shirley V. Hoogstra. “Christian colleges and universities work in a variety of ways to live out the biblical principles of caring for those who are most vulnerable and ‘welcoming the stranger.’ As Christians, our desire for just and compassionate immigration reform is driven by biblical principles, understanding that each person is created in the image of God, implying dignity, value, and worth. I’m encouraged by the opportunity we have to convene students, faculty and campus leaders to further the conversation on how we can better understand and respond to the topic of immigration reform through a biblical lens.”

Hosted in partnership with World Relief, the Evangelical Immigration Table, and local church leaders, these regional immigration summits will take place at the following campus locations:

  • March 5: Vanguard University (Costa Mesa, CA)
  • March 10: Bethel University (Mishawaka, IN)
  • March 17: Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville, TN)
  • March 26: Oklahoma Baptist University (Shawnee, OK)

Each event will feature a variety of speakers, including Matthew Soerens, U.S. Director of Church Mobilization at World Relief, as well as a panel of students. Registration for these events is free (campus travel grants are also available), but an advance RSVP is required. For additional information, please contact crine@cccu.org.
