A Primer on Cybersecurity for Christian Colleges and Universities

From the experiences of Montreat College, this workshop will present rationale and information for Christian colleges and universities to consider cybersecurity educational programs. Presenters will provide an overview of the cybersecurity industry related to career development, the workforce demand for cybersecurity, technical certifications, and opportunities for internships. Participants will be introduced to resources for curriculum development, including the national standards for cyber education developed by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education of the National Institutes for Standards and Technology, and to the process for seeking designation by the National Security Agency as a Center of Academic Excellence.

Research That Makes a Difference: What Have We Learned from Collaborative Research in the CCCU?

Led by members of the CCCU’s Christian Higher Education Research Council, this hands-on, interactive workshop will share results from collaborative research projects across the CCCU.  Participants will learn the latest information about why our students choose a Christian college, why they persist to graduation, their satisfaction and levels of engagement during the college years, and the “value-added” elements of a CCCU education.  Furthermore, the seminar will empower participants to apply data-driven decision-making at their own institutions and introduce them to exciting new opportunities to collaborate in a comprehensive assessment of the student experience from entry to graduation and beyond.

Prison Education: The Christian College and University Approach

In the last decade Christian colleges have launched numerous programs to educate incarcerated students.  This workshop will begin with presentations by four colleges that have strong prison education initiatives—Ashland University, Calvin College, Nyack College and Wheaton College—and a non-profit agency facilitating college programs in prisons—Hudson Link.  Presenters will describe their programs as well describing how their programs got started.  In addition, the college representatives will discuss the ways in which their prison education initiatives are uniquely Christian.  During the Q&A portion of the workshop attendees will have an opportunity to present their programs or plans for educating incarcerated students.  The workshop will include roundtable discussions of best practices in program development, partnership with corrections departments and non-profits, teaching and learning and the use of technology in prison education.

Navigating the Title IX Waters at Christian Colleges and Universities

This will be an interactive workshop where participants have the opportunity to learn from and share with colleagues on how to address unique challenges facing faith-based schools as they navigate the waters of Title IX compliance. Presenters will start with a brief update on recent Title IX legal developments. The remainder of the session will include interactive small group discussions on a variety of topics such as: discussing consent, alcohol and amnesty on Christian campuses; Title IX and its intersection with Student Life; and strategies for engaging senior leadership and addressing resource needs. This workshop is designed for Title IX Coordinators and other campus personnel who play a significant role in Title IX compliance. Participants will be surveyed in advance of the workshop to suggest topics for the discussion portion of the workshop.
*Please note: We have gathered together a group of national experts and expert practitioners who have graciously volunteered to lead this pre-forum session on Title IX. The fees collected for this session are to cover space, food, overhead, etc. not speaker honoraria.*

Reputation Management in an Era of Free Speech, Social Media and Crises on Campus

Now more than ever, communications professionals at colleges and universities across the country are increasingly faced with the challenges of protecting their brand and strategically navigating messaging challenges that arise. In the Christian higher education setting, these waters can be particularly choppy. Join with colleagues from across the country for a two-part session designed especially for communications, legal, and community relations professionals at Christian institutions. The first segment will focus on lessons from the field that will provide insight into and discussion of how to manage key issues facing all institutions. The second segment will include an interactive simulation of issues that may impact an institution’s reputation (Title IX, institutional policy, public policy, safety issues) and will give all participants the opportunity to put their skills to the test.
